Bullfighting is a traditional event in many countries in Europe such as Spain and Portugal, some parts of France and Latin American countries, which used to be colonized by Spain such as Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela and Peru. Bullfighting is an English version for this human-versus-bull fighting but it is called corrida de toros in Spanish and corrida de touros in Portuguese. This traditional fighting is the fighting between one or more bulls and humans in a bullring or arena. Personally, I think it is a bloodshed sport. Sometimes, people think it is not a sport whatsoever. The fighting is considered a highly ritualized performance of fighting, which is closely linked to Spanish culture and identity.
Bullfighting traces its roots back to
prehistoric period in bull worship and sacrifice in Mesopotamia and the
Mediterranean region (Source: bullfighting).
Nowadays, the bullfighting is still practiced by the professionals called
“toreros” in many parts of Spain and Latin American countries, even though it
is not supported/ banned for the reasons of animal welfare advocates and
barbaric blood sport. The most senior professional toreros, who kills the bull
at the end, is called a matador. Not only bulls were killed, the bullfighters
were severely injured or killed during fighting. This makes me wonder why
people still want to sacrifice their lives, maybe because of bravery and
dignity!!! I think one time is enough for me. I don’t think I will watch this
kind of sport again. My main reason is that it is cruel to animals and also
fatal for the bull and the matador.
The atmosphere inside the
bullfighting arena in Soria one day before the real bullfighting on the first
of July in 2013. It was like a small fighting between humans and young bulls.
This day is free for the public.
The day of real bullfighting in Soria held on the
first of July in 2013. The entrance was not free. I could not remember how much
doesn't it cost per one person because my parents' friend paid me at that time.
